Oniscus asellus is one of the largest and most common species of woodlouse in the British Isles and Western and Northern Europe, growing to lengths of 16 mm and widths of 6 mm and is easy to care for. They are hardy and adaptable but rather shy. With large numbers however they tend to be more active.

Common name: Skirted WoodlouseSize: adults reach a length of 16 mm up to 20 mm (varies by locality).
Terrarium: keep ½ moist with sphagnum moss and a piece of rotting white wood underneath. Oniscus asellus isopods will burrow into the substrate if it’s deep, but that’s not a prerequisite.
Temperature: 15 – 25°C; they prefer it cooler.
Humidity: 60 – 75%; but are also drought tolerant.
Activity: night; early morning
Diet: fruits, veggies, greens, fish-food, decaying leaves, rotting white wood, molting of invertebrates and reptiles, pollen. And 2x times a week provide a source of protein. Be sure to check out our Protein mix foods. They are not picky eaters; they have an average feeding response.
